The Arizona Sleep Society was founded by a group of dedicated sleep professionals and now is in the 12th year of providing educational conferences and other services to its members. The Arizona Sleep Society is a non-profit Corporation and the Board Members donate their time to provide services and the annual meeting to its many members.
Melanie has served in Sleep Medicine in the Tucson area for many years and served in Supervisory to Director roles at Various Tucson Sleep Centers. Melanie has served the Arizona Sleep Society Board since their inception. Melanie served many years as the AZSS Secretary and worked hard to obtain credits for all the sleep society meetings with the AAST, AARC, and BRPT.
Melanie now works with Valley Sleep Center in the Tucson and is working on expanding Sleep services in the Tucson area with a new sleep center.
Melanie is currently the President of the AZSS and is filling in to assist in Secretary/Treasury duties
Bernie Miller, RPSGT, CCSH, RRT, BS, MHCM has been with the Mayo Clinic Arizona Center for Sleep Medicine since 2001. He’s also an assistant professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and an adjunct for the GWCC. Bernie has served with the Gateway Community College Sleep Program Advisory Board and the Arizona Sleep Society Board since their inception. Bernie also has lectured at many conferences on Sleep Medicine.
Bernie currently is assisting in Secretary/Treasury duties and is the AZSS past president.
Steven Lenik, RPSGT, RST is a Registered Sleep Technologist with over 40 years experience in Sleep and Cardiopulmonary medical technology. He has managed AASM accredited sleep centers, pulmonary function laboratories and neurodiagnostic centers since the 1970’s and taught college courses in Sleep and Respiratory technology for nearly 30 years. He has been an invited lecturer at national conventions for polysomnographic and neurodiagnostic technologists for decades. Steven is currently active CEC accreditation committee of the AAST.
Steven currently is the Education chair for the AZSS.
Bali has served in Sleep Medicine many years in the Phoenix area at Banner Sleep Disorders Program as a Sleep Technologist moving up to Program Director managing multiple departments. Bali served with Valley Sleep Center in Supervisory roles until taking the position as the Director of the Gateway Community College Polysomnography Program where her experience and extensive education benefit the next generation of Sleep Medicine professionals. Bali has served with the Gateway Community College Sleep Program Advisory Board and the Arizona Sleep Society Board since their inception.
Bali currently is assisting with Secretary/Communication Chair duties for the AZSS.
Gerald started his Sleep Medicine career under Andrew Binder, MD in Santa Barbara, CA in 1998 and returned to Arizona where he worked with Samaritan/Banner Health Sleep Program 4+ years, had a brief period with American Health Services , and now has been with Valley Sleep Center for 17+ years currently serving as the Technical Director there. Gerald Attended Arizona State University and learned Polysomnography from the Ohio Institute of Sleep Medicine. Gerald has served with the Gateway Community College Sleep Program Advisory Board and the Arizona Sleep Society Board since their inception.
Gerald is currently the Communication chair for the AZSS and works on the website and other media.
Francisco has served as Director of Operations for Valley Sleep Therapy since 2013. Leading the Therapy team with over 15 years of clinical sleep experience developing and overseeing daily operations for VST. Francisco is an active member with the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists Exam Development Committee and Membership Committee for the Arizona Sleep Society. Valley Sleep Therapy helps to treat patients with Sleep Disorder Breathing across the Phoenix Metropolitan area and recently received DMEPOS accreditation in 2019. Francisco enjoys working on patient education and community awareness, helping patients to become successful with their sleep therapy.
Francisco is currently the Membership Chair for the AZSS.
Kimberly Vana (DNP, RN, FNP-BC) is a clinical professor at the College of Nursing and Health Innovation. She currently teaches in the RN-BSN and Concurrent Enrollment Programs in the Undergraduate Nursing Programs. Her current research interests include sleep health and nursing education pedagogy
Kimberly is our newest Board Member and assists the other Board Members in various capacities and advisory roles.
Troy was the Arizona Sleep Society Treasurer for 11+ years and has since moved out of state to pursue other challenges. Troy has served the Arizona Sleep Society Board since their inception.
Troy we wish you the best in your new endeavors and would quickly welcome you back as your shoes are hard to fill. Our very vest to you Troy from your AZSS Board/friends and on behalf of all the AZSS Members.
